except all the radios agree with all the tvs
and all the magazines agree with all the radios
and i keep hearing that same damn song everywhere i go
maybe i should put a bucket over my head
and a marshmellow in each ear
and stumble around for
another dumb-numb week for another hum drum hit song to appear

people used to make records
as in a record of an event
the event of people playing music in a room
now everything is cross-marketing
its about sunglasses and shoes
or guns and drugs
you choose
we got it rehashed
we got it half-assed
we're digging up all the graves
and we're spitting on the past
and you can choose between the colors
of the lipstick on the whores
cause we know the difference between
the font of 20% more
and the font of teriyaki
you tell me
how does it make you feel?

you tell me, what's real?

It actually happened today. RIAA actually had the balls to sue us for downloading music. I could be selfish and bitch about the fact that I finally got my hands on my very own computer and high speed DSL internet (and not to mention a little more time now that I'm not in school anymore) and therefore have the means to take on all the projects I've been wanting to work on for so long and NOW they pull this bullshit. Oh no. The happy phantom has no right to bitch. I shall live. I will, however, not put up with the music industry blaming their so called 30 percent drop in sales on file sharing. It hasn't even crossed their minds that maybe, just maybe, people aren't buying their CD's because the prices have gone up way too high. What's retail on a new CD nowadays? 17 bucks? They can't cost more than 50 cents to make. They are being downright greedy, because they know we'll pay it to get the albums we want. Not to mention the products themselves aren't the greatest either. Music is one of the things that is most important to me and it tears me apart to see the music industry go to hell like this. Everything is so fake. I have recently gotten cable, now able to see all the MTV stuff everyone's gushing about. And you know what's on it? Music videos of the same sounding songs with the same half naked women shaking their asses at the camera. No thank you. I already feel as far away from what society deems appropriate for women to look like, I don't need to compare myself to plastic people playing mediocre music. On these albums we're lucky to find one or two songs tops that can be acceptable as fluff music to enjoy on occasion. And that's where sharing came in, because they don't put the songs we want on singles. We have to buy the whole goddamn thing. And that's just stupid if you ask me. There are SO many ways to appease the public, some artists like Pete Townsend and Peter Gabriel have made it possible for members of their fan websites to download special B-sides/rarities/live concert performances. There's websites offering paid MP3s: I think it's AOL offering 99 cent downloads. There's got to be a way to make everyone ok with this.
