Why am I always on a plane or a fast train
oh what a world my parents gave me
always...traveling...but not in love
still I think I'm doing fine
wouldn’t be a lovely headline:
'life is...beautiful' on the New York Times

((best song ever. If you haven't heard it, you should download it ASAP. seriously.))

HAPPY BIRTHDAY MATT ! ! ! (hope it was awesome!)

Second attempt at vacation post. Here goes.

My four day trip to NYC was wonderful. Not only was it fabulous timing (I needed a break, baaad) but everything went super smooth. It didn't rain all weekend, which makes me believe I may have broken the rain curse. Two trips in a row it didn't rain.
I have officially fallen in love with Midwest Express. This is coming from a girl who absolutely hates flying due to god awful past experiences (delayed flights, cramped quarters, rude staff, turbulence, etc). I found myself in a comfy leather seat in a nice roomy cabin. Hell, they even give you warm chocolate chip cookies mid-flight. The landing was nice and smooth, so I didn't get as airsick as I usually do. I'm sold. Midwest Express all the way, baby.
I lucked out once I landed, there was barely anyone in the taxi line and traffic was good. I soon found myself on Liz's doorstep.
We headed out to see Wicked at the Gershwin Theater (with the fabulous miss Shannon and Meg). Our seats were in the balcony and right behind a row of preteen fan girls that were friggin adorable. I had a nice clear view of the stage. (I will post details about the show later. I promise.)
The following day Borders hosted a signing to showcase the re-release of the book with a new cover with the musical's logo and some photos from the show in the middle. Liz and I had to put up with a lot of crap to get tickets and get in line, but we kept our eyes on the prize. Check out the goods! The stupid store made me buy the new book in order to get a ticket. But, with the help of Liz, we smuggled in my old book and cd and got them all signed! Ha ha, screw the system!!
Idina Menzel was quiet because she was saving her voice for the show (that she would be doing in less than 2 hours) but it was so freakin awesome to see her. Not to mention Joel Grey and Norbert Leo Butz and Carole Shelley and Gregory Maguire and Stephen Schwartz and the actors who played Boq, Professor Dillimond, and Nessarose!! As usual I was in the presence of greatness and was at a loss for words. Some cute things happened: one of the fans knocked over a bottle of water all over the signing table (soaking his friend's book and Idina) and Boq make a wisecrack about not getting Idina wet or she'll melt. And then the little girls next to me proceeded to cut in front of me and take my cd cover!! They were too cute though: Norbert asked them what their favorite part in the show was and one of them said 'when she stood up' and pointed at Nessa. It totally made her day to hear that.
After the signing we were practically running out of there (after all, we were pretty much stuck there from 1 till 6) to the Whole Foods in the lower level of the mall: which had a JAMBA JUICE!!! I could practically hear the hallelujah chorus. I was one happy girl. Happyhappyjambajuiceofjoy! :)
That evening, Liz took me to see another original show that I've never seen before called Avenue Q. There isn't anything like it and it blew me away. So funny and smart and the cast was amazing.
As for the rest of the trip, there was lots of staying up late hanging out with Shannon and Liz. Lots of wandering around the east village in search of crazy shoes.
We even went to see the Upright Citizens Brigade theater for 2 amazing improv shows. Chicago's TMLMTBGB should hook up with them. *AND* we got to go to the Yaffa Cafe!
My flight home was pretty smooth, with the exception of LaGuardia security (long lines and downright creepy people) and a slight delay in take off. The weekend was over far too fast, but we couldn't have possibly squeezed any more into it. Everything was well above and beyond my expectations. Thank you so much Liz, Shannon and Meg for a great trip!
