First a few things to get out there:
1) Good lawd that was one hell of a football game. Eric (
phed4), your boys put up a good fight, I must say.
2) Ok. Hillary Duff. You SO owe me some royalties for that title. Well, ok...you owe Pink Floyd some royalties.
3) Rufus Wainwright's new album, 'Want Two' is out in 2 days!! (HU-fuckin-ZZAH) I am especially looking forward to hearing a crisp studio version of Gay Messiah.
(note: all of the links to my photos are sometimes working sometimes not. I'll fix it when I get home tonight. In the meantime, go to my link called 'photos' and click on the Georgia album. They're all there.)
I have finally returned from running away. Dad and I drove 1200 miles down to Brunswick, Georgia for a week of rest and relaxation far far away from cold ass Wisconsin. And shrimping. Lots of shrimping. We catch them by hand, using a 100 foot net to scoop them up after the tide goes out. We did really good this year, bringing home about 45 lbs or so. And not shrimpy skrimpies. Big monster skrimpies. Low tide was after sunset, so I got to do lots of stargazing as we sained. The sky is crystal clear down there because Jekyll Island is so far away from the city lights. We catch lots of pissed off crabs too. They're fun to kick. No, I'm not mean. It's therapeutic. Those things would follow me down the beach with their claws up in the air last time we were there. They freaked me out and pinched my ankles. I'm getting my revenge now.
The highlight of the trip would have to be feeding the dolphins. Those guys look for sainers and follow them down the beach to wait for them to throw back the fish that get stuck in the net. I waded out waist deep in the water with a big mullett and he came right up to me. We had a really good time. The southern hospitality isn't just a rumor. They're so laid back down there. It was nice to slow down for a change. We stayed with my mom's high school best friend and her family. It's been 4 years since I've been there, and holy crap things have changed. They've always been animal lovers, they breed dogs and had a large coop of various birds in the backyard. I hadn't seen anything yet. They moved from their corner in suburbia to a 20 acre lot with a pond. They made it into a mini-farm. I kid you not. Dad and I pulled in there and were promptly greeted by a flock with 3 different kinds of geese, a very friendly turkey that follows you around everywhere you go, chickens, a rooster, a male and female peacock, a new litter of bulldog puppies, Bill and Monica, the ostriches (I was told there used to be a Hillary as well), a donkey, a teddy bear cow, and what farm would be complete without GOATS. Dude...the animals. Craziness. I spent many an afternoon napping in a hammock. Check out the pineapple palm tree!! No one gets that but 2 of you, but oh well. I learned how to make homemade cheesecake, thanks to Dave. We had some awesome meals down there. Fresh shrimp is the best. I even got a little makeover while I was down there. Judy, my Mom's best friend is a hairdresser and was kind enough to fix my eyebrows and make my hair all one color. After 2 years of red hair, I am officially back to my natural color. It's a big change, but I like it. I'm sick of putting stanky chemicals on my head every month. It stained my pretty shower curtain too. That stuff is vicious and unforgiving. I'm happy to be rid of it. I have many bottles of hair care products formulated for red heads, if anyone's interested. Mom and Dad are still planning on moving down there in 5 years, so Dad was scoping out houses. Which was fun and all, but it got me freakin out thinking about my family getting split up. Heather's probably moving to Minnesota, it's just a matter of time. Mom and Dad are going to Georgia. Where am I going to go? I'm so used to having my whole family in the same city. It's going to be so lonely not having them near me. It's not happening any time soon so I'm not going to worry about it yet. It's just another thing floating around in my head.
There's a lot of thinking a person can do during a 17 hour drive. Twice. We passed through Ohio for a bit and I flipped it off on everyone's behalf. Dad and I had some pretty important discussions in the car. It was nice to get some things out and help him understand where I'm coming from. You know, I am so grateful to have such a great Dad. I can't think of anyone who would do something like I just did with their parents. My Dad is just that cool. I had fun playing DJ with my ipod during the ride. Thanks to Tim for lending me his car charger or we'd be out of power half way there.
I'm getting back into the swing of work now...starting the work week on a Thursday was so EASY. Friday night we had a ladies night and went to see Bridget Jones II. So freakin funny. Best part of the movie: yet another wimpy british guy fight between Hugh Grant and Colin Firth set to 'I Believe in a Thing Called Love' by the Darkness. Haaaaaaaaaa. love it. I wish they hadn't ended the movie with "so you see, there's always hope for love. Even if you're 33 and have a bottom the size of 2 bowling balls" though. Yesterday I spent the entire day with Heather and later met up with miss Devon. Good stuff. Spiderman II and Monkey Ball tournaments. Today I woke up fairly early and cleaned my room till 2. I was a madwoman. Doin laundry, getting rid of clothes I never wear, organizing my closet...finally put my garb away (sniffle). Then I drove Heather and Grandma to Mom and Dad's for the Packer game. He made coconut shrimp with pina colada sauce. I just about fell over it was so good. The game itself was pretty interesting for once. Both sides played a decent game. I was wanting to watch the game instead of read the newspaper this time. That's pretty good for me.
This week should be nice: I get to present an inservice to my coworkers at the Racine and the Kenosha physical therapy departments on how to evaluate and treat patients with vertigo. It's kind of complicated to first get into but once you get it it's so easy. I learned all about it at my last internship site and no one I work with knows anything about it. Wednesday night I get to see one of my favorite folk singers in concert, the fabulous Miss Patty Larkin. I was so exited to see her on the Parkside theater lineup. AND then Friday night and Saturday I get paid to play with Kinesiotape.
Hope everyone is doing well. I must be off, yet again. Aqua Teen awaits...
