Jan. 29th, 2005 07:12 pmI just spent today at a pottery studio in downtown Racine called 'Fired Up' and painted all afternoon with Becky (Sorensen), Heather and Mom. It made me realize how much I miss doing that kind of stuff. Now I want to go back and make presents for everyone. It's not that expensive to do and SO easy. The pieces are pre-made, which is nice because I would always worry about having a tiny air bubble in my work and having it explode in the firing process. They have dishwasher safe plates, mugs, sushi trays and all sorts of practical things you can use plus tons of really cute little decorative figurines. I was tempted to pretend I was 8 years old and choose a tiara jewelry box. Instead I picked a nice latte mug and saucer. Becky did a star shaped plate and decorated it with 'imagine peace' with a globe. Mom found a decent sized teapot and decorated it Ireland style. Heather painted a round cylinder that could be used for a vase or a paintbrush holder or whatever and made it into this beautiful painting of a sunset with a tree and celtic artwork. The owners were gushing over it. Guess they're not used to having real artists in there. I can't wait to see how my mug and saucer turn out. We get to pick them up in a week so they can have the final sealing coat of clear glaze and get in the kiln. It was my christmas present to Mom. I figured it would be something fun to do together. We had a blast in there. I could have done without the easy listening/ShopKo-esque music over the loudspeaker but I could deal. They played a couple John Lennon songs, so they made up for all the Bette Midler and Celine Dion. A couple hours after we got there a dozen bubbly little girls came in for a birthday party. They were too cute...for 10 minutes. Then they got irritating. We had to head out anyway. The four of us took a quick peek around Sheepish (and I scored some more Emer'gen-C and Cantaloupe tea) and went home. Dad made an awesome dinner of sticky chicken in honor of Bampa (my Grandfather. don't ask me why we call him that, I honestly can't remember). He had his 78th birthday last Tuesday. Mom and I made an irish creme bundt cake that kicked ass. Oh man. Best cake I've ever had. Then Dad lit a fire and we had a slideshow of our Ireland pictures for Nana and Bampa. Now I'm back home, waiting for Heather's friends to get here so we can get the party started. Her classmates from Art Therapy school are so cool.
and now a question for all: I just got a flyer from Theater Guilde in Racine for auditions for 'The Music Man' (yes, it will be over before faire season, May 20-June 12).
Now. Seeing as how I'll be less than 10 minutes away from that place once I move next month and I keep putting off getting into theater or choir again....should I go for it? Not my favorite musical by any means...or my favorite theater. But a good start anyway. Maybe I could volunteer for the behind the scenes stuff.
What to do?
I will definitely look up Wustum museum and it's classes to find a pottery/ceramics class to play in.
yes yes.
