(no subject)

I just spent today at a pottery studio in downtown Racine called 'Fired Up' and painted all afternoon with Becky (Sorensen), Heather and Mom. It made me realize how much I miss doing that kind of stuff. Now I want to go back and make presents for everyone. It's not that expensive to do and SO easy. The pieces are pre-made, which is nice because I would always worry about having a tiny air bubble in my work and having it explode in the firing process. They have dishwasher safe plates, mugs, sushi trays and all sorts of practical things you can use plus tons of really cute little decorative figurines. I was tempted to pretend I was 8 years old and choose a tiara jewelry box. Instead I picked a nice latte mug and saucer. Becky did a star shaped plate and decorated it with 'imagine peace' with a globe. Mom found a decent sized teapot and decorated it Ireland style. Heather painted a round cylinder that could be used for a vase or a paintbrush holder or whatever and made it into this beautiful painting of a sunset with a tree and celtic artwork. The owners were gushing over it. Guess they're not used to having real artists in there. I can't wait to see how my mug and saucer turn out. We get to pick them up in a week so they can have the final sealing coat of clear glaze and get in the kiln. It was my christmas present to Mom. I figured it would be something fun to do together. We had a blast in there. I could have done without the easy listening/ShopKo-esque music over the loudspeaker but I could deal. They played a couple John Lennon songs, so they made up for all the Bette Midler and Celine Dion. A couple hours after we got there a dozen bubbly little girls came in for a birthday party. They were too cute...for 10 minutes. Then they got irritating. We had to head out anyway. The four of us took a quick peek around Sheepish (and I scored some more Emer'gen-C and Cantaloupe tea) and went home. Dad made an awesome dinner of sticky chicken in honor of Bampa (my Grandfather. don't ask me why we call him that, I honestly can't remember). He had his 78th birthday last Tuesday. Mom and I made an irish creme bundt cake that kicked ass. Oh man. Best cake I've ever had. Then Dad lit a fire and we had a slideshow of our Ireland pictures for Nana and Bampa. Now I'm back home, waiting for Heather's friends to get here so we can get the party started. Her classmates from Art Therapy school are so cool.

and now a question for all: I just got a flyer from Theater Guilde in Racine for auditions for 'The Music Man' (yes, it will be over before faire season, May 20-June 12).
Now. Seeing as how I'll be less than 10 minutes away from that place once I move next month and I keep putting off getting into theater or choir again....should I go for it? Not my favorite musical by any means...or my favorite theater. But a good start anyway. Maybe I could volunteer for the behind the scenes stuff.

What to do?

I will definitely look up Wustum museum and it's classes to find a pottery/ceramics class to play in.

yes yes.

*My* Favorite...

"The Music Man" is one of my favorites, partly for the overdose of cheese, partly because it was the first musical I ever saw as a kid(albeit in VHS form), and partly because I have the utmost respect, musically speaking, for this Meredeth Willson effort which took 20 years to finish (his combination of real standard barbershop tunes & original compositions in authentic styles suits the story & period well, and I love how Harold & Marian's themes, "76 Trombones" & "Goodnight My Someone", are just variations of the same melodic line!). I also think this is why I LOVE barbershop SO MUCH!!!

My personal biases aside, I'd go for it if I were you. It may not be your favorite, but it might give you a foot in the door for a project that will be more near & dear to your heart. Besides which, it'll keep you from being too rusty when something more appealing comes along. (Rusty or not, it never hurts to have more experience!)

I'm involved in a lot, some of which I considered doing/wanted to do for some time before actually getting involved. In every instance, I wish I had acted on my interests even sooner than I did. If you really want to do theatre & singing again, go for it! You have nothing to lose, but everything to gain!

I forgot about the barbershop songs!

Ok, I'll do it. Why not?

I think you should audition. And put on there that if you don't get an acting part that you wouldn't mind helping out backstage.

And even if it was during Faire season I would have said that you should audition.

Break a leg.

thanks dear. I'll do my best.

AUDITION!!!

Do it! If you don't I'll be very disapointed.

I didn't know you still were on lj!

I will audition. I just have to find the right song this time. 'Take Me or Leave Me' from Rent didn't seem to work very well (they chose the latter).
I *really* hope it isn't Norm directing. He's supposed to be 'retired' yet directed the current play.

I hope it isn't Norm either, but then I hope it isn't Michael Snieder, he completely micromanages the productions and it seems like he won't allow much actor evolution. Let's hope it's someone else. I also talked to my friend who is the executive VP of the board at Sixth Street and he told me to send him you're e-mail, so he can send you audition dates and information. I told him you were coming back into town and was interested in acting again. Is your e-mail still Scarletcornflake@yahoo.com? Do you want me to send him your info? I'm sorry I can't really help you in finding a musical audition piece, my only advice is that you want to find something that shows your range, your ability to have a character, and something similar to the show you're auditioning for. If it was a straight play I could help find a monologue, but I am at a little bit of a loss here. If you want help preparing for your audition, let me know.

hell yeah, shoot that man my email address. I'd love to check out that theater. Thanks much!! Don't worry, I'll find something. I've got a month to search.
