cut through these strings

I'm going get a pc of red flannel (like for craft projects) and cut out a blood splotch. Stitch on a few velco dots and have a removeable blood stain. So the plan is, pull the basting out (it's going to be a single-thread removal), put the knife on my back, pull the dress back up over the knife, then stick the flannel blood stain onto the dress.
