What a rush. Going nonstop for weeks has been great, but sitting down and actually writing about is the hard part. Being able to have a break from classes and breathe for once is working wonders for me. I've gotten the chance to see all the movies I wanted to see so desperately: Harry Potter, Lord of the Rings, Nemesis, Two Weeks Notice (hush your mouth Liz. you know you love it) and CHICAGO. I've had the time to spend with those I have been not seeing much of all freakin semester. I've seen more of Mr. Randy....and did I mention I was in New York City? ::girlish giggle:: I feel almost guilty for being so happy. But then again, I worked my ass off and dammit, I deserve a break sometime. I must have buttloads of good chi stored up somewhere, right? All the odds are in my favor something's bound to begin???? ;)
Ok. So New York. Liz and I flew out New Years Day (the previous evening was of no note beyond the fab lobster dinner. I wasn't in the mood I guess. I was too exited about the trip to care about anything. Although I did make a New Years wish to have a good year to make up for the past three crappy ones). ((This new mix you made me kicks ass! I can't wait to hear the rest!! I'm such a happy little puppy with my brand spankin new headphones from Virgin and my lizmixes.)) (((sigh.))) So. Flight. Yes. It was quite turbulent, actually. The McDonald's I foolishly ate before the flight sat in my throat during the landing sequence. uuuughhh. But. We made it just fine and my luggage came thru intact, so life was good. To follow suit with the previous pilgrimages to the big apple, it was grey, dark and raining. The efforts necessary to keep from yarfing and the flight process itself took enough out of us anyway, so we were perfectly content to settle in for the night. Liz led me to a delightful Chinese restaurant named 'Chow Time'. We bundled up and ate sesame chicken and watched the first of the bootleg broadway marathon: Alan Cumming's performance as the emcee in the London cast of Cabaret. And a new South Park (which I haven't seen in forever) and Jon Stewart. Yay cable. Then I had a solid night's sleep on the aforementioned sheep sheets that I love so much. The next day was partly cloudy and we were in high spirits, so it was straight onto the subway to 42nd and by some crazy lucky shot, we scored front row tix to Metamorphoses, a show that has become one of my favorites that I've seen so far. We promptly walked around Times Square, poking around our dear friend/bathroom oasis, Virgin Megastore. I made the one and only purchase there: a pair of cheap over the ear hook-on headphones that I've always wanted, and a late Xmas present for dad, a really nice collection of Twilight Zone episodes. You gotta love William Shatner going psycho on the plane when he thinks he sees a gremlin. Classic. ( I bought it for dad, really....) We also played in the Toys R Us in Times Square. I was skeptical, it looked like one big BUY ME sign, but I was pleasantly surprised to find an entire floor of fuzzy cuddly things to hug, a huge anamatronic T-Rex (which Liz and her posse lovingly call Tiny) and E.T. and a godzilla made of Legos, and a barbie castle, and lots of fun stuff to play with. Randy has a tradition of sending his friends off on their trips with his beanie wolf named Toby. So far Toby has been to Ireland and England with pictures to prove it. The first Toby shot we took was in front of Madame Tussaud's Wax Museum with Samuel L. Jackson. We had so much fun taking Toby shots all over the place. We walked through Bryant Park, New York Public Library and went in Studio 54 to verify that Raul was really gone to be replaced by the worst casting stunt they've pulled yet: Neil "Doogie Howser" Patrick Harris. God save us all. That evening we saw Chicago at the Zigfeild Theater (where it premiered! wow!) a fuzzy red plush walled theater with golden swirlies. We wanted to move in. good movie!!! love it! Relief to know that it wasn't butchered. And then it was off to the Circle in the Square theater to see Metamorphoses. Our rush seats were in the front row, which was a danger zone nearest to the pool, so we were provided with towels. How awesome is that? I am a greek mythology addict, so I was right at home with the play. It was such a fun and moving mix of staying true to the stories while mixing in modern text and props. The actors were incredible too. They were so close, only a few feet away at many points. Not only were they great at verbalizing the text with spirit and passion, but also have great physical presence and dancelike grace. Makes a girl wish she had talent so she could play too. It's just so great to see new creative vision being put to use and get the appreciation and recognition it deserves.
So much laundry to do tonight...so sleeeeeeeeepy....
I'll have to continue tomorrow night. Stay tuned for part two of my exiting adventures in lizland!
