Good GOD what an awesome weekend. Not only did I get to *sleep in* two days in a row (YEEEEAH!) but I also got in some prime quality time with many an important person in my life. It started off Friday night having some fab mexican food with Tim and Megan, followed by finally seeing Pulp Fiction for the first time...(I must say, I've seen many insanely weird movies, but that one had to have made the top five. woah.) Then my sister and I went to a local costume shop that was having a sale the next morning. I'm always on the lookout for new gear to wear to Rocky and halloween is coming up, so why not. After all of one minute of being in that store I ran into AE and Tom, two really awesome people from faire. We were all really suprised there weren't more Bristol peoples there.
Heather and I walked out of that place with some friggin Awesome wigs on sale. Yes. I am strange. But I'm in good company anyway. Let's see. Then it was off to Chicago to the Hideout block party. It was a two day concert/benefit for three different charities. I took some pics, Liz (since I know you're the only one who gives a shit). We arrived just in time to catch the last half of the Struts set. It was crazy. They were Bowl of Fire minus Andrew Bird plus Kelly Hogan. Not that I mind, they rocked. Nora was so cute, she spoke for the band at the end of their performance and said 'We are the Strokes. We perfom about twice a year, so see you all in 6 months. We do weddings. Only $15000 for a 45 minute set!!'
Then, the long drive through scary Chicago traffic became all worthwile as I stood at the front of the mob and took in 45 minutes of Andrew Bird. He brought his pedals, played in his bare feet and put up with volunteer sound guys putting his mic on echo at the wrong times, all the while giving a great performance. Three violin strings broke, so he was getting into it a little more.
::melts into happy puddle of joy:: It was absolutely beautiful outside. I even looked up to the sky and watched a monarch butterfly pass over the stage. It was so perfect. I loved looking around at the many generations of people enjoying music together.
He opened with First Song, then Nora joined him for Action/Advenure. Then Kevin came on and they played Lull, the Mad Professor song, Opposite Day, and a really kick ass version of Why. I know he played more songs than that, but I can't think of them right now. One of them I didn't recognize. He was all set for a last song but they cut him off early. I screamed "MOOOORE!!!!!" but to no avail. Ah well. I'm such a dork though. I adore these people so very much but when I get the chance to see them, shake their hand and say a few words I turn into a really shy 5 year old that suddenly loses the ability to move and/or speak. (my feet! I can't move my feet!!) The same thing happened last weekend when I was in the presence of Brian Howard. God I'm such a girl sometimes. Well, Heather seemed to enjoy the show too. She said to me after the show 'wow. I didn't realize his new album had quite so much whistling'. We both really liked the Pernice Brothers, the band that followed Andrew. They even played the song I know! It was a really fun show.
I'm really glad I went.
After the concert we drove back home, and on the way stopped at Red Lobster in Gurnee, IL and had some drinks (wow. my fourth since turning 21 in March. I'm so saaaaad) and the best seafood fondue I've ever had. Well, it was the only seafood fondue I've ever had, but it was damn good.
AND TODAY, my whole freakin family: both sets of Grandparents, my Uncle Steve from Texas and my parents all got together to watch the opening season Packer game. I really didn't care all that much about the game (minus that godawful play when one of the packers landed on his head and had to be taken off the field on a stretcher. My heart just stopped dead in its tracks watching that. I really hope he's okay.)
To be honest, I was more interested in taking in the awesomeness of being in a room with three generations of my family, all having a good time together. I'm so lucky to have these people in my life. And living in the same city (sans Uncle Steve, of course). I just love everyone right now.
C'mon everybody. Group hug!
