Everyone deserves a chance to fly

Ok people. I've been putting this off for far too long. I'm lazy, what can I say?
Here's a rundown on my recent
Now, bear with me people. I have neither the talent nor the brainpower to present this in a fun and interesting way. So I'll just do my usual stream of consciousness thang.
I had the pleasure of letting someone else take the lead in planning the trip to see Liz's graduation. Liz's dad did all the planning, flight booking and driving to the airport. Which was SO nice. I flew out there on Wednesday May 19th with Liz's dad, her little sister Emmy and (her dad's girlfriend??) Sandy. We got up at dawn to make it to Chicago's Midway airport on time. We flew with ATA, which wasn't bad at all. As per usual, New York gave me its usual greeting with lots and lots of rain. Lucky for us, it only rained half the day and didn't return until the last half of the final day there. The weather was really nice to me. It stayed in the 80-90 degree range and was almost always sunny. We all hopped in a cab and headed out to the city. Then we checked into our hotel, the Manhattan Seaport Suites. It was a cute place with huge goldfish-type creatures that gurgle at you in the lobby. Emmy and I shared a room down the hall from Liz's dad and Sandy. I haven't stayed in a hotel in AGES, so I happily played with our tiny bottles of shampoo and peeked in all the drawers. Ever since the morning drive to the airport, Emmy wasn't feeling good. She stayed consistently sick for the duration of the trip. Which really sucked. Although I did get the cutest picture ever out of her while we were wandering Central Park. Cutest. Ever.
During the five days I was there I saw two Broadway musicals: 'Caroline, or Change' and 'Assassins'. Both were awesome in their own way. Both nominated for Tony awards. We also did what we came to do: watch Liz cross a stage wearing a goofy hat. The ceremony itself was slightly unorganized but not horribly so. I really enjoyed miss Meg's fabulous Graduation speech. That day, which was Thursday, I believe, was sunny and bright and warm and perfect. After the ceremony we wandered Central Park for hours, taking in all the sights. I went a bit camera happy, but what's new? A major highlight for me was visiting Strawberry Fields. I hadn't been there since my first visit there (4 years ago? dude). It was decorated with flowers and John Lennon photos. I wonder why they put up a gate around it. Are people that disrespectful that they walk on it? Opposite the tile circle was a guy with an acoustic guitar playing 'Revolution'. It was a really nice moment up until two mobs of middle school groups swooped in. Teenagers piss me off, what can I say? Although I *did* run into the Teen Girl Squad in the bathroom at this crazy suburban mall thing at the Pier.
Um. yeah. We also saw Mr. Andrew Bird and the Magnetic Fields at Town Hall. Everyone (and their mothers!!) were with us including Meg, the infamous Megsmom, Meg's younger brother, Shannon and her mom and Chris. We took up an entire row. Oh Bird. How you rule. He played mostly Weather Systems and has really improved on his switching from guitar to violin to xylophone during songs. AND he played 'Why', one of my favorites. I hope his new cd will come out by the time I see him in Chicago in a couple weeks.
I also had the pleasure of spending a day with Shannon and her mom. We almost made it to Ellis Island but it was really hot and very crowded. I had some time to kill while they waited at the TKTS booth, so I wandered over to the Sephora in Times Square to see if I could catch Idina Menzel and Kristin Chenoweth at the instore promotion of Stila's Wicked makeup line. I got there a half hour before the event was supposed to be over but they had just left. I did score some nice shots of the adorable Elphaba and Glinda promo cutouts. I was not impressed with the actual product they came up with. For the ridiculous price of $25, you get a half dollar sized compact of either green or pink glitter paste and a tube of pink lipstick. woopity doo, people.
Speaking of Wicked, I tried to get rush tickets twice, with lots of generous people putting their names in for me...but no luck. There had to have been around 200 people there both times. Oh well. Worth a try. Instead of Wicked, we went to see an off B'way play called 'A Normal Heart' starring Raul Esparza and Joanna Gleason. Out of the three shows I saw, that was my favorite.
All the shows I saw this trip were very dark, very powerful pieces of theater.
While we were in town we all pitched in and helped Liz move to another dorm room for the summer.
I bought more 'I love NY' crap because I'm such a sucker for it. I also had a baseball T-shirt personalized with 'midnight radio' across the front and 'NYC' with a star on the back at a store in that crazy Pier 17 mall.
That's about it. Our flight back was delayed like crazy because of bad weather conditions in Chicago. Apparently there was a really bad hailstorm in Racine while we were gone. My pretty Roxy has dents all over her. My poor car. Although, based on all the tornadoes and flooding going on around me, I'll take the dents, thank you.
I have a snoring Josh in my bed right now. egad. So much noise coming out of a quiet guy. It's weird, yo.
Today is going to be fun. Dad's having a cookout and since the weather's nice, we'll probably go for a paddle in the Root River. Mabye I'll get the nerve to check out Razor Sharp today. It's a gym across from Case in Racine that sent me free passes to check it out. I'd like to join, for obvious reasons....
It's a really good deal: they offer tons of pilates, yoga and kickboxing classes for no additional cost and membership will be $10 less than what I pay to take one measly yoga class at work. C'mon willpower! let's go! Quit flipping off your reflection and do something about it. Makes sense, let's see if I actually follow through.
And on my day off, I plan to watch lots of bootleg broadway, thanks to Shannon.
