And now, a fun survey for you all:

I have 2 options for my Medusa costume.

Black velvet italian gown

(per Devon's request, if I wear this one I will take off those crazy sleeves and probably wear a long sleeved chemise and wrap a gold rope around my waist in true greek goddess style)

See the pretty trim?

and another angle

OR

Red velvet gown ripped off of Franco Zeffirelli's Romeo and Juliet

(I haven't worn this thing in AGES. 4 years is a long time to sit in a closet. It needs to come out and play)

And for the record, I did find some snakes. Hope they're not too small.

Guess who doesn't know how to make a poll. ME!

comment! argue! whatever you wish just give me your thoughts!

thanks!!

The black velvet is a little too clearly an Italian Rennaissance dress to be convertable to a Greek look, unless you''re not exacly caring so much about historical accuracy.

The red one also is a more modern design, but you made no mention of attemting to make it look Greek....

Both of these dresses have the benefit of being warm, and both are pretty, and need to come out and play... I like the red a little better though

***********
If you were going for a Greek Goddess look, a simple bedsheet with the top 1/3rd folded down... wrap arround your left side, and pin at both shouldiers with matching broaches. This leaves the right side open, revealing nudity (historicaly accurate here, not Hollywood''s version) then girdle with a length of braid.

This more historically accurate look has several disadvantages... one is the imodesty of leaving the right side open, and another is the lack of warmth

I am being lazy and not trying in any way to be historically accurate. I have to deal with that shit all summer at Faire and don't wanna on my time. Besides, the folks I'll be partying with won't mind. I'm more or less just wanting something that looks good and can pass for something
Medusa-ish.

Thanks for the input. One vote for red!

Oh yeah, I also think that you should go for the red velvet number. That looks so more Medusa than the other one.

And like you said, it needs to come out and play.

One more thing, I have your MM ID. You spending the night on Friday?

I'm thinkin staying over would be good, is that ok with you? I'm barely made it home in one piece last time. Did my ID turn out ok?

Of course you can stay over. Duh.

The pic came out pretty nice. Nothing like a Driver's License or School ID. Lucky you!!

Hmm...well, in general, I like the black one more...

Although I agree that the red one is more "Medusa" looking...plus it's the same pattern as my prom dress! Yea!

Ooh, always the rebel. BLACK ONE. Spookier! Classical! Witchier! Greecier! Halloweenier! You know, of the two. Less princessy. Though you could always costume against type and dig up that Rapunzel gown. Not really though.

Also, the picture of the snakes is ADORABLE. I'm not sure why.

You should be sure to practice a turning-people-to-stone gaze. Also adorable!

OH EM GEEE. That pink thing will always haunt me...
I donated it to Park High's theater department so they can have decent princess gear for those cursed with a size 14 figure. There's nothing there above a size 6. It's sad.

Oh man I am so ready to flash my Medusa face. raar.

That picture is from a grand batch of way more hilarious dress-up pictures, circa 11th grade. The Melissa's-choir-dress portion also included this, which remains one of my favorite pictures ever. Look how pretty Mindy makes a girl feel! Smiling doggies are nature's beauty supplies. Maybe.

(Melissa, do you still have my Norman Bates pose? Hahaha.)

I am voting a second time for blackness! I need to get all the practice I can in before Tuesday!

I don't have it scanned. I have the original copy of it though. LOVE THAT PICTURE SO MUCH.

photo shoots. gotta love em. What else were 11th graders supposed to do? (other than sing show tunes and make a massive pile of people and watch movies all night. aww yeah).
