learning2flyI am physically and emotionally exhausted tonight.
Long story short, my Bampa (aka my mom's dad) fell on Saturday, fracturing his right hip. They took him to the ER, did a pinning surgery on Sunday and he's admitted to the hospital for the week. He is so doped up on meds that he doesn't know where he is or that he had surgery. I went over to see him as soon as I got out of work tonight and it turns out he had just tried to get up on his own 10 minutes prior and fell again. I sat with him for an hour, waiting for them to take him down for a head CT scan and another xray of his hip, to make sure he didn't hurt himself when he fell. In that hour I must have told him at least 10 times what happened, where he was and where Nana was. He was completely lost. He remembered I will be moving soon and other stuff. Just not the past 3 days. Poor Nana had a horrible day trying to get him to calm down.
OH fuck. Heather just called me, he fractured it again. fuck fuck fuck.
Why is this happening? We got away with just a pinning last time, maybe it'll be worse and he'll have to get the whole joint replaced. His balance sucks already, we don't need this on top of everything else.

Date: 2005-02-23 03:37 am (UTC)If he refractured the hip it depends on where he fractured it, most fractures of that nature involve a fracture of the proximal femur. The compression screw may have to come out and he may have to have an austin moore hip hemiarthroplasty, possibly with a wiring of the fracture site depending on how bad it is. An austin moore is a slightly different approach, more through the posterior of the upper hip, but it's a quick surgery.
